Local tips
A few pointers from our on-the-ground team.
-
Icy roads ahead
When visiting the Cottonwood Canyons in winter, make sure your vehicle has AWD/4WD and either snow tires or chains. -
Prevent altitude sickness
Travelers from lower elevations should plan a rest day or two to acclimate before strenuous activities. -
(Water) bottles up
Utah is a desert and has hot dry weather. Remember to hydrate. -
Plan around Sundays
Many businesses, shops, and restaurants close or keep shorter hours on Sundays due to the city's strong LDS culture—plan ahead. -
Sit back and enjoy the ride
The city has a surprisingly good light rail system (TRAX) connecting downtown to the airport and suburbs. -
Wait for the walk signal
Jaywalking is ticketed in Utah. Use the crosswalks and wait for the signal, even when the street looks clear.
