Local tips
A few pointers from our on-the-ground team.
-
Climbing is prohibited
Haystack Rock is a protected area, closed for climbing and entering. Must stay 10 feet back. Rangers and volunteers enforce it. -
Parking is limited
Downtown Cannon Beach parking is tight, especially during summer and weekends. Tolovana has easier parking and is a short walk to everything. -
Track the tides
Low tide is prime time for tide pools. Check the NOAA tide chart when planning your visit. -
Reserve early
Summer weekends book out months in advance. If possible, reserve rentals, restaurants, and other activities, as soon as you can. -
Check hours of operation
Most retail shops and galleries close by 5 or 6 PM and dining options can be limited late at night, especially during the off-season. -
Pack for unpredictable weather
The weather can be variable. Make sure to pack layers, a rain jacket, and waterproof shoes that can adapt to the beach, trail, or town.
