Local tips
A few pointers from our on-the-ground team.
-
Consider Reedsport an access point
Reedsport is a gateway, not a destination. Its magic is the access it provides to dunes, lighthouses, elk, and crabbing. -
Budget an afternoon in Winchester Bay
Winchester Bay (just a little south) is where the working-waterfront charm lives. Thereās plenty of sun, surf, and sand to be enjoyed there. -
Go crabbing from public docks for free
Crabbing from public docks is free with a shellfish license, available online. Rent crab pots or rings from local marinas or tackle shops. -
Observe Dean Creek elk safely
Dean Creek elk are wild. Stay in your car and use the designated gravel pull-outs to safely view and photograph the herd. -
Check before you pump gas
Oregon made self-service legal statewide in 2023, but stations aren't required to offer it. Tipping gas attendants isnāt expected but appreciated for extras, like a windshield cleaning or tire check. -
Plan your dunes visit well
The Oregon Dunes are massive. Have a plan; staging areas south of Reedsport differ wildly in vibe from those north.
