Overview

As its charming name implies, Nana and Papa's is a true retreat on the shores of Wallowa Lake that will make you feel like a kid again. In this spectacular spot overlooking the lake and mountains, you'll have floating swim docks at the water's edge, an incredible deck that wraps around the house, and a flat and expansive yard for lawn games (the only lakefront home on the lake's west side with a lawn).

This three-story, lakefront home sits close to the midpoint of Wallowa Lake's western shore, about four miles south of downtown Joseph. It's the perfect setting for all of your outdoor adventures, whether you're kayaking, paddleboarding, or embarking on fishing excursions to catch your dinner. Hike a portion of the famous Wallowa River Loop Trail, take a ride on the Wallowa Lake Tramway, or spend a day at Wallowa Lake State Park, all within 10 miles. Come winter, head to Ferguson Ridge Ski Area only 14 miles east.

A highlight of this home is the enormous deck overlooking the lake, where you can sit down for alfresco breakfasts and linger with your coffee in the gazebo. In the afternoons, host barbecues on the gas grill, relax to a serenade of bird song, and watch your kids play in the immense yard below.

The interior is woodsy and welcoming, offering gorgeous views throughout and warm details of wood, brick, and stone. Stream movies beneath two-story ceilings in the window-lined great room, play afternoon card games with a view of the lake, and find every mealtime essential in the adjacent kitchen. After dinner each evening, head downstairs to play pool and watch movies in the rec room - which doubles as the fourth bedroom. There's also a primary suite on the main floor and two guest rooms and a dedicated workspace upstairs.

Great spot on the lake with a private dock! Lots of yard space for games like bucket golf and corn hole. Host was responsive and kind.

Avari response:

We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed your stay with us, Zachary! It sounds like you made the most of the beautiful yard space for games like bucket golf and corn hole, which is exactly what we love to see. Having a private dock right on the lake is such a treat, and we're glad you could take advantage of it. Our team is always here to ensure you have a wonderful experience, so it's great to know you felt supported during your stay. We hope to welcome you back for more fun and relaxation by the water soon!

Our family of 2 adults and 4 kids (15, 10, 5, and 18 months) as well as our dog,
all stayed in this beautiful cabin on the water for 5 days, 4 nights in mid July.

We had a wonderful time and so much space even for the size of our group. It really was perfect to be able to walk down to the dock and jump straight into the lake; made the logistics of traveling with a dog and small child so much easier. And if someone had to use the bathroom we could just run back up to the house

My only ā€œconcernsā€ were: keeping the upstairs bedrooms cool enough (we had to blast the AC to do that and as a result the downstairs was very cold), for families with small children there is an iron wrought spiral staircase that is very dangerous (we just made it a point that no one was allowed to use it and keeping a really close eye on the toddler), and then the wonderful gazebo was so nice to have drinks on in the evenings but it did feel a little shaky. šŸ˜

All in all, would be VERY happy to stay here again!

Overall this was a lovely location and we enjoyed our time on the lake. The house had all the space we needed and we spent a lot of time outside on the deck. Really appreciated that this location has a flat yard for dogs to run around.

Considering the high cost of this rental, there are a few areas I would recommend improving for future guests:
- Deep clean: The floors, surfaces, and linens were clean but the place could use a more thorough cleaning (spider webs in windows, tv remote very dirty/grimy, etc).
- Limited basic amenities/toiletries: We stayed for six nights, and that should be taken into consideration when providing things like paper towels, dishwasher pods, trash bags, and toilet paper. We had to go out and buy additional items.
- Gazebo safety: I would caution against people being allowed in the gazebo until the deck support is brought up to code, it was very concerning when we saw how it was constructed and feels unsteady with the weight of multiple adults.

Overall a great stay & a lovely lake property.

Avari was communicative directly before and during the stay.

The floors were noticeably dirty upon arrival and there was low stock on supplies and an odd variety of supplies [towels still in dryer and kitchen items disorganized and hard to find].

My main complaint was getting ahold of Avari about a desired change in reservation ahead of the actual trip. The listing said it was still under Vacasa and it was a wild goose chase to get ahold of them. I actually never got through, my sister ended up being the one to be able to get ahold of them after much trying and the number on the listing was inaccurate
